The Mad Hatter's Festival

Anthony Anderton is the Artistic Director of the 2020 Mad Hatters Festival.

The Festival is a showcase for the talents and achievements of artists with a lived experience of mental health issues. The Festival program includes exhibitions, displays, creative workshops and a public forum "The Art of Well Being"exploring the connection between creative activity and well being. The Festival themes are Creativity - Community - Connection

Based in Brisbane, Anthony Anderton works as an independent photographer, writer and community arts producer. He has over ten years experience of working in the Brisbane community arts sector with a particular focus on mental health, disability and social access. In 2019 he co-curated an independent art exhibition during Refugee Week and continues to work actively in the areas of refugee and migrant communities.

His current professional photographic projects include a community based story telling project involving interviews and portraiture, and a long term photographic project about historic connections between Queensland and China. In 2018 his images were exhibited in Chongqing China as part of the travelling exhibition "An Australian Photographer in China." His images are also featured in the State Library of Queensland's 2020 Exhibition of Queensland Photography.

His previous professional experience includes working in the private sector in insurance and finance, representing the Australian Trade Commission in China and Australia and teaching Asian studies and politics in Sydney and Brisbane.

He is graduate of the University of Queensland - with degrees in Arts, Law and a Master of Social Sciences (Asian Politics)
