The Board of Trustees of Newstead House

The Board of Trustees of the Newstead House Trust was established under the Newstead House Trust Act 1939 for the government, management and control of Newstead House.

Newstead house is Brisbane’s oldest surviving home, established in 1846. This iconic landmark has evolved from a simple Georgian cottage into a grand residence following significant renovations and extensions in 1876. The house occupies a commanding position within Newstead Park, with sweeping views of the Hamilton and Bulimba reaches of the Brisbane River.  Newstead House is an established house museum, decorated and furnished to reflect the late Victorian period and is a significant part of Brisbane history.  Newstead House is a heritage listed property operating as a living museum.  Considered one of the most significant properties in Brisbane and Queensland, located just minutes from the CBD.

OUR VISION:         Embrace the future, discover the past

OUR MISSION:    To conserve the significance of Newstead House, the building, the collection and the landscape with care and integrity offering all members of the community opportunities to enjoy, learn and discover.

WHAT WE DO:  We are a living museum giving life to our past through activities such as education, exhibitions, interpretation, public programming, and publications.  We support the economic and cultural sustainability of Newstead House through community engagement, visitation to the property and public programming.
