Tanya Chapman - Studio 33

Living in the wet tropics of Far North Queensland since 1990 has helped etch a love of the natural world into my psyche. I explore themes around the environment and personal awakening and like to create pieces that inform and stimulate conversations and ignite the imagination.

As a self-declared pollution picker-upper – I have collected thousands of items from the shorelines to the mountain ranges, north and south of my home – from remote regional communities and isolated natural environments to larger more densely populated areas alike.

As an environmental artist I explore our impact as a society on the natural world by using various mediums including found cultural objects. I work in a multitude of media including painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, and instillation pieces.

Taking a deep look into the trash we leave behind I want to leave people feeling somewhat uneasy about the impact we have as a species on the planet, and hope to open up lines of communication and help guide thoughts towards innovative solutions.
