Steve Brown has been a counsellor/psychotherapist and Mindfulness teacher for over 25 years. He has a longstanding meditation practice in the Zen tradition and in the 1980's spent time in Asia practicing and studying Buddhist meditation in monasteries and ashrams throughout Thailand, Nepal and India.

Recently he has trained in TRE (Tension and Trauma Release Exercises), a non-talk, self-help process that releases deeply held tension and trauma from the body. TRE can be a useful adjunct in the treatment of emotional difficulties including stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma/PTSD.

“I’m keen to bring TRE to those groups of people who are marginalised in our community, and to emergency service workers, and to those suffering from Developmental/Complex Trauma – people who have experienced longstanding abuse and neglect in early childhood,” he explains.

Steve believes TRE works in harmony with Mindfulness, “I have recently begun teaching ShakingZen – a unique combination of TRE and Zen/mindfulness meditation. These two practices are the perfect complement to each other.”
