Employee Engagement Capability Report 2012

RedBalloon and AltusQ (formally Shirlaws Business Coaching) have partnered on the Engagement Capability survey to build on the wealth of knowledge surrounding employee engagement in an attempt to develop an understanding of how ready and capable organisations are to improving their employee engagement reality.

We wanted to create a tool that would appeal to both HR Managers and CEOs alike because it would be underpinned by a measurable system for improvement that can deliver cultural and commercial results.

What is Engagement Capability?

If Employee Engagement is defined as “the extent to which employees commit—both rationally and emotionally—to something or someone in their organization, how hard they work, and how long they stay as a result of that commitment,“ then Engagement Capability can be defined as an organisations ability and readiness to deliver in the specific areas that contribute to engagement.

Oliver Christen from AltusQ and James Wright from RedBalloon unpack the results of the annual survey at a series of Workshops and look at what it takes to achieve 80%+ employee engagement scores.

RedBalloon is Australia's largest experiential gifting retailer and a 2010 Hewitt Best Employer with an engagement score of 90%+.

The RedBalloon corporate team supports organisations large and small to develop engagement strategies, reward and recognition programs and non-cash incentive programs; proving you can mix business with pleasure.

AltusQ is a coaching firm like no other. With an energetic, practical and passionate team, AltusQ’s leadership, mentoring and business coaching creates greater choice for businesses and their people, stimulating stronger commercial returns and building robust cultural environments that attract and retain the best talent.

What did they say in 2011 about the workshop?

Over 90% of workshop participants across Australia and New Zealand rated the content and delivery as excellent...

"A lot of take aways... the capability assessment tool is excellent. Such a simple, clear and practical way of ‘de-mystifying’ engagement for our people leaders. Into the toolkit it goes!" says Angela Serhan, HR Operations Manager, BT Financial Group

"Your session today was galvanizing, thought provoking, challenging and hugely informative. For me, in my own businesses, you provided the insight and the tools to create a better business, a better business environment and, if we take the action, a more profitable business.

I do have one regret though. I missed the opportunity to get my whole team in the room. Ideally, I would have liked to have my Board, my management team, our 300 plus advisers, our accountants and other professional advisers who work with us - as well as their clients - there to hear and learn from your presentation." says Maurice Trapp, Chairman of Ginger Group NZ

The learning outcomes for the workshop include

1. Understanding the 20 elements of employee engagement that deliver the most effective results

2. Be in a position to better assess your organisations engagement capability

3. Identify the areas you want to impact in FY13 and how you will do it

4. Build an action plan that will boost engagement in your organisation
