Nicholas Psarros - MPTN

MPTN - community engagement arm of The Movement Refinery

Founded in July 2016, MPTN is a group for like-minded instructors who are comprehensively certified in the Pilates method. The network provides free professional development events, social interaction, introduces mentors to mentees and provides forum to share and discuss concepts and concerns.

Comprehensive training ensures that instructors are well-versed in all major apparatus in the studio and aware of how to accomodate the various needs of a clientele.

Nicholas Psarros is a Pilates and exercise professional, for fifteen years he has dedicated his life to the craft and community of Pilates.

Born and raised in Adelaide, he later moved to Brisbane to study Performing Arts as a Dance major at QUT. During this time he used Pilates to rehabilitate from several injuries and eventually decided on a career transition.

Nicholas has trained extensively since 2002 and is dual certified with two comprehensive Pilates qualifications, a member of the Pilates Alliance Australasia and as an Exercise and Sports Scientist with ESSA. Nicholas works from a multi-plane and 3D approach, which reflects his training in the Gyrotonic method and in fact was the first Australian-trained teacher in 2005.

Having worked in Melbourne’s best movement therapy practices Nicholas has spread the word of the true Pilates approach and supported Melbourne’s Pilates devotees. Establishing The Movement Refinery in 2005, he operated the studio from the CBD before relocating to Carlton. Taking a pause from the business for two years, Nicholas has launched a new concept in Fitzroy North and is eager to inform and empower a new community of friends and clients.

Passionate about improving the Health and Wellbeing of the broader community, Nicholas was an integral member of staff for nearly four years at The Australian Ballet School. Appointed as the Strength and Conditioning Coach, he supported an innovative program at the national centre for elite classical dance collaborating with a broader team of health professionals and experts to best support the future of Australian dance.

At the 2015 Pilates Alliance Australasia conference, Nicholas fell in love with ‘Classical Pilates’ and to this end began yet another Pilates certification process with under esteemed teacher Olga Tamara.

To support the Pilates community from a local level, Nicholas established the Melbourne Pilates Teacher Network in 2016. With over three hundred members engaged, Nicholas coordinates a team of volunteer presenters to facilitate free workshops across Victoria. MPTN provides social and professional support to developing and established teachers alike.

In his spare time Nicholas exercises using the Pilates method and loves to run and cycle with friends. Dedicated to his dog Prince Dexter, you’ll often find him at the park or walking around the inner-North.
