Kúkátónón has a 35-year history in the Pacific Northwest as a culturally specific dance program. In 2009, Kúkátónón became a 501c3 tax-exempt nonprofit organization. Its history is rooted in the Northeast Portland community as a West African dance program first located at Woodlawn Elementary school in 1983.

Kúkátónón takes its name from the word that means “we are one” in the Kpelle language in Liberia. For nearly 35 years, Kúkátónón served an average of 35 youth annually. For three decades Kúkátónón served over 1,000 CADT members and their families and performed for over 100,000 audience members in Oregon and SW Washington.
