East Gippsland Shire Council
East Gippsland Shire Council is a public statutory body that operates under the legislative requirements of the Local Government Act 1989.
The Act sets out the role of Council as an elected body to provide leadership for the good governance of East Gippsland. • provide a wide range of services and facilities, and support many others;
• protect the community, making sure the environment is safe and clean;
• prevent things that cause harm to the community such as disease, noise and pollution;
• plan for the future of the community;
• represent the needs and desires of local communities to the wider community, other levels of
government and other organisations; and
• provide open, responsive and accountable governance, ensuring the resources available are used
fairly, efficiently and effectively.
