Devonport Chaplaincy is the local church in action. (Devonport Churches - Serving Together) Our commitment is to serving our schools by establishing holistic support and care for students and their families through our chaplains and volunteer networks. We work collaboratively with our local community towards proactive and life changing solutions that will support a positive and vibrant future. We’re compelled by the example of Jesus Christ... Mark 10:45... the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others..."
Our commitment as the “Local Church” is to “Serve Education” throughout the Devonport region. We seek to do this by establishing holistic and broad support for students and their families through our Chaplains and Volunteer networks. We value the importance of a “Local Community and Region” working together to support one another towards a positive and vibrant future.
Our Chaplain’s provide valuable support for our school communities. They play a key part of the school welfare team, providing a professional, confidential and spiritual presence, positively complimenting the work of school social workers and psychologists. The chaplain’s role can include the formation and implementation of programs targeting core and specific school issues, for example bullying, eating disorders or truancy. They achieve this by working closely in collaboration with the local community, churches and business.
Chaplains provide spiritual and emotional support to school communities including children, families and staff. They are in the prevention and support business; helping students find a better way to deal with issues ranging from family breakdown and loneliness to drug abuse, depression and suicide. They provide a listening ear and a caring presence for kids in crisis and those who just need a friend. They also provide support for staff and parents in school communities.
