Caboolture & Redcliffe Mental Health Expo Committee

The Caboolture & Redcliffe Mental Health Expo committee are made up of a broad array of local services that have a passion for supporting individuals with mental illness. The Committee have put together a week of events across the Moreton Bay region for Mental Health Week 2017. These include information booths at local shopping centres; the Connecting Communities event at Redcliffe Youth Space on 10th October from 1-5pm which will provide a range of both information and entertainment; and the Stop the Stigma Walk & Games Day on 12th October.  The week of events provides an opportunity for all stakeholders working on mental health issues to talk about their work, and what more needs to be done to make mental health care a reality for people worldwide. These events are part of Queensland Mental Health Week 2017, the goal of which is to: promote the importance of mental health and wellbeing and to celebrate the lives of people living with mental illness.

Collaboration between all levels of government, community, health sector organisations and business is imperative to create the changes needed to reduce the rate of suicide and improve access to mental health services. Our events will focus on linking local service providers with the community and reinforcing the positive benefits of safe and open discussion about mental health issues.

We are encouraging all Australians to make a personal promise to improve their own mental health. It doesn’t have to be New Year to make a resolution, and making a promise is an active step in improving mental health and wellbeing.

Mental ill-health can affect anyone. About half of all Australian’s experience mental illness in their lifetime, and about one in five Australians experience a mental health issue in any one year.

“What mental health needs is more sunlight, more candour, more unashamed conversations about illness that impact not only individuals, but families and communities” - Glenn Close. These events provide that opportunity to illuminate the topic and initiate discussions as a community.
