What we're about
Currumbin Beach Coolangatta/Greenmount Burleigh/Tallebudgera Weekly Meetup, exercise, and then socializing over breakfast, coffee or tea. We are fully inclusive, open to all ages, all levels of fitness and all genders. We are helping people reconnect with one another or form new connections. The culture of the group is to love one another and celebrate our differences and uniqueness and give opportunity in the community to bring all together.
We engage in light exercise, a walk or run followed by coffee. The timing is such 15 minutes out and back, or longer, that we all come back at around the same time and then gather in a venue, We started in Currumbin and our number s have grown to 30+ each morning and we wanted to bring together more people in different locations North and South
So we meet as follows..
Tuesday Coolangatta/ Greenmount
Wednesday Currumbin
Thursday Burleigh/Tallebudgera
We also meet every second Wednesday for a dinner event, book early numbers are limited, average attendance 60.
So a big hearty welcome to the group, please come and join us
I have lived on Currumbin Beach for most of my life. My family owned and ran the Currumbin Playroom Cabaret in the 1940's and 1950’s and that later became Playroom Nightclub at Tallebudgers which hosted bands like INXS, Midnight Oil, Air Supply, Hot Chocolate, Simply Minds and It was the love of flying and life called me to travel so I became an International Airline Captain and Examiner.
My family also owned and ran a beach kiosk underneath the Greenmount Surf club and Claude Carnell (My Dad) would host concerts to up to 4000 beachgoers from the late 1950’s. He famously put the Bee Gees on stage at one of those concerts. And if you are old enough to remember the ice cream of the day was the "Surfie Sunday" and the "Greenmount Special" made by Peters. A famous hypnotist call Ron Ricco worked these incredible events at the beachside kiosk
I lived in Paris and flew for Air France and later in the Middle East. After years oversea, I came back to my home town Currumbin but knew only a few people. This group gives me a way to connect with people. So socialising has been an integral part of my life.
I feel fitness and healthy activity keep us mentally alert and these Carona times having a community connection is important. Many, like me, have struggled with loneliness and isolation, connecting with others is vital to our health. I and the entire group warmly welcome all newcomers at any of our events. The dinner is a great place to start too.
We meet every Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday
