Blue Mountains Botanic Garden, Mount Tomah

The Blue Mountains Botanic Garden  is located under 2 hours’ drive from the Sydney airport and less than an hour from Penrith and Richmond.

The Garden has an interesting history. Founded on the traditional land of the Gundungarra and Darug people the area was traversed in 1804 by explorer George Caley on a botanic collecting trip.

Sitting on 252 hectares with 28 hectares open to the public, the Garden is home to 21,000 plants and 900 species and is focused on the conservation of cool climate plants. It is the only botanic garden in the world in a World Heritage Area . Over the next five years we are revisiting and returning The Garden to the original vision for the site while aspiring to be the model garden for sustainable practices on a global stage.

Our educational, cultural and artistic events including exhibitions and workshops are set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Garden, reflecting the stunning surrounds.
