Event Information
About this Event
**Foyer open 5:30pm for drinks. Screening commences 6:30pm **
Beneath The Surface is a fascinating, visually stunning documentary about the pioneering Ellies family and its history as growers of Australian South Sea pearls. Set in remote Australian communities and waters, from Broome to Arnhem Land, this is a visually stunning look at how generations of one family overcame a brutal and often racist history to work with nature, creating gems of breathtaking beauty.
Meet Aji Ellies, current CEO and custodian of the Ellies family pearling history; the filmmaker, Sam Thies, and the doyen of Australian's South Sea pearl jewellery, Margot McKinney, for a very special insight into the creation of the documentary and of the pearls themselves.
Ticket price ($30 + ticket handling fee) includes a complimentary glass of bubbles, beer or soft drink and nibbles. Cash bar also available.
RAFFLE - Margot McKinney has generously donated a South Sea pearl bracelet valued at $7,500. Tickets will be sold and the prize drawn on the night.
Funds raised from the event will assist Zonta's commitment to support and advocate for women and girls through its education awards and in programs to combat domestic violence.
