Event description

Description

A two day workshop hands on workshop where you will create your own unique etchings using traditional and modern techniques with zinc plates and copper sulphate.

Participants will learn how to prepare their plates, use a variety of mark making techniques, achieve tone using spray paint as an aquatint, etch the plate, print using the intaglio presses and experiment with stencils.

By the end of the course everyone will have created a zinc plate etching print ready for framing. Most materials and morning tea will be provided.

Suitable for beginners and those with some experience.

Etching is a rich medium where an image is scratched, drawn or painted onto a metal plate and the image etched into the plate. A range of marks can be created and, after etching, ink is applied to the plate. A print is created by placing dampened paper onto the plate and passing both through a press.

About your tutor: Amanda Donohue studied printmaking at Sydney College of the Arts graduating with a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours). She has been a printmaker for over twenty years, specialising in etching but also interested in lino, dry point, screen printing and collagraphs. Amanda has been a member of the Newcastle Printmakers Workshop for seven years and a committee member for six. See more about Amanda at www.amandadonohue.org.
