Event description
Join us for an evening of conversation with artists and activists, Sukhjit and Harjit, about the interplay between their work and Sikhi.

About this Event

Following a year of sold-out events in 2018, the Young Sikh Professionals Network New Zealand (YSPN) is back with perhaps our biggest event yet - The Contemporary Sikh with Sukhjit and Harjit!

Sukhjit Kaur Khalsa is a first-gen Australian Sikh, spoken word artist, educator, performer and human rights reformer. Sukhjit is passionate about diversity and the importance of visibility in the performing arts and inherently merges her advocacy background with the arts. Her work predominantly provokes conversations around Australian identity, feminism, cultural confusions, and the power of uncomfortable conversations.

Harjit Singh is the co-founder of The Australian Sikh Heritage Association, Turbans & Trust and has served as the director of United Sikhs in Australia. Harjit Singh is a first generation Australian who has found passion in promoting a greater awareness of the rich shared heritage between Australians and Sikhs. He has delivered speeches on his view of Australia's multiculturalism at various forums and conferences including a recent TEDx talk and our very own Elevate 2019 conference.

This event will explore ideas around heritage, identity and what it means to be a Sikh in these contemporary times. There will be opportunity for Q&A and networking over nibbles with our international speakers and the largest professional network of young Sikhs in the country.
