YOW! Lambda Jam 2017 Conference
Sydney, 8-9 May 2017
YOW! Lambda Jam is heading to Sydney this May! The event aims at expanding the skills of functional programmers. The conference focuses on applied functional programming in languages such as Clojure, Scala, Haskell, Erlang and F#.
YOW! Lambda Jam attracts leading software professionals that are serious about staying informed of the latest trends and using that knowledge to create innovative solutions. There is a strong focus on learning new functional programming skills from experts and peers as well as sharing experiences.
The event is not your typical conference: a significant part of each day is devoted to hands-on practice (code jams) or workshops. Australian functional programmer presentations will be complimented by international keynotes and selected experts. Check out last year's pictures here.
YOW! LAMBDA JAM KEYNOTES 2017
* Conal Elliott -
Conal Elliott has been working (and playing) in functional programming for more than 35 years. He especially enjoys applying semantic elegance and rigor to library design and optimized implementation. He invented the paradigm now known as “functional reactive programming” in the early 1990s, and then pioneered compilation techniques for high-performance, high-level embedded domain-specific languages, with applications including 2D and 3D computer graphics. The latter work included the first compilation of Haskell programs to GPU code, while maintaining precise and simple semantics and powerful composability, as well a high degree of optimization. * John Hughes -
John Hughes has been a functional programming enthusiast for more than thirty years, at the Universities of Oxford, Glasgow, and since 1992 Chalmers University in Gothenburg, Sweden. He served on the Haskell design committee, co-chairing the committee for Haskell 98, and is the author of more than 75 papers, including “Why Functional Programming Matters“, one of the classics of the area. With Koen Claessen, he created QuickCheck, a property based testing tool for Haskell. It has become the defacto testing tool for FP and more recently for many other languages. In 2006 he founded Quviq to commercialise the technology for Erlang and C – Testing the Hard Stuff and Staying Sane. Read More...
