Event description

Description

In the lead up to the 2018 Victorian election and beyond, YACVic is focused on strengthening our advocacy concerning youth service delivery in Melbourne's interface local government areas.

Interface Councils are the 10 LGAs that form a ring around metropolitan Melbourne: Cardinia, Casey, Hume, Melton, Mitchell, Mornington Peninsula, Nillumbik, Whittlesea, Wyndham and Yarra Ranges. Some youth services working in these LGAs also work in neighbouring communities, and we’re keen to hear about the differences and similarities.

The findings we make will shape a specific piece of advocacy we'll be working on to present to the Victorian Government. What we learn will also shape YACVic’s policy platform, which will have a strong focus on interface youth service issues. This document will guide our advocacy to the 2018 Victorian election, and towards 2020.

We are keen to hear from those working with young people in the interface council areas about the concerns, strengths and service gaps for young people.

These areas include:

  • AOD and mental health

  • Housing and homelessness

  • Public transport and other transport options

  • Education, training and employment

  • Inclusive service delivery

  • Making local communities safe and welcoming places for young people.

We are also keen to hear about how interface youth services collaborate and advocate strategically as a group, and how this could be better supported.

This consultation is proudly supported by Cardinia Shire Council Youth Services. Thanks for their very generous promotion and support.
