Description

Youth Matters forum 2019, led by the MyQ State wide Leadership Council will raise attention and call to action strategies to address matters that are currently affecting Young People from migrant and refugee background in Queensland, with a focus on employment, education and health.

This forum is for:

  • Government agencies and peak bodies working with young people

  • Community and services working with young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds, including young people seeking asylum

  • Young leaders from migrant and refugee backgrounds, including young people seeking asylum

Aims:

The forum will be an opportunity:

  • To share and launch the findings of the My Australia Youth Census ARC research with a focus on Employment, Education and Health. The research was run by the University of Melbourne with national partners including MyQ; report launched in early 2019, more than 30% of the data completed by young people came from Queensland. MyQ will share the findings and .To bring together young leaders and the youth sector to explore issues (barriers and facilitators to education, employment and health) and identify strategies to address these issues, together - placing young people at the centre.

  • To hear directly from young people about what matters to them

  • To engage key stakeholders in the work of MyQ and in better addressing the rights and needs of young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds in QLD

  • For the sector and young people to work together to identify key issues and develop actions for future work

  • To learn about the MyQ Youth Council, what it offers, how it works and how to get involved

  • To demonstrate youth participation approaches to service planning and delivery
