Event description

Description

Young people from refugee and migrant background tell us consistently, that they still face significant challenges and barriers when accessing services, programs and events. One of the solutions they want to see is adequately trained staff that are culturally competent. The need for this runs across sectors and is lacking in many areas where young people interface with services including schools, GPs, the justice system, youth and community services and many others.

At this third MYAN WA network meeting of the year, we will hear from a panel of speakers, including sector representatives and young people themselves who will talk through the issues and generate discussion on the needs for cultural awareness and cultural competency. In the second half of the meeting, we will work together to brainstorm practical ideas for how we can get better, more comprehensive and most importantly youth specific cultural competency training on the agenda.
