Event description

Description

Whether it’s a classic piece of literature or a random op shop find, we all have a treasured, favourite book. One that is held dear for its complex characters, twists and turns of plot or because it came along at just the right time in your life.

Books, like a lifelong friend can speak to us deeply and personally. The power of words can inspire and evoke special memories and feelings. At this workshop, we will investigate what makes this book so special to you. Is it dog eared and tattered due to the standout characters, the setting, the drama and suspense or the portrayal of a classic romance?

After discussion we will design and decorate a ceramic tile to reflect your chosen book, using words, images and colours. Your tile will be included in a permanent, collaborative artwork to be displayed at Corrimal Library on an external wall.

The tiles will be formed into a large scale tree rich in growth and full with leaves, echoing the growth of the local area. It will connect and reflect the community who participate showing diversity of culture, age, interest, backgrounds and language.

So come along to this hands on, free and friendly workshop, open to all. Have your favourite book included and represent your pride in your community. No creative experience necessary, all materials provided.

Limited places available. Booking registers your interest and your place will be confirmed up to 5 days before the event. Open to all ages and feel free to bring along your chosen book.

This project is funded by a Ward-Based Art Grant from Wollongong City Council.
