Event description

Description

Here’s the thing about ageing, we all do it. No matter the length of time we able to do so, we are all doing it. So why not create communities where we can actively participate, feel safe, valued and respected, and have appropriate and affordable access to services to enable us to do so.

For over 60 years’ Council on the Ageing (COTA) Queensland has been advocating to Governments and decision makers to enable this happen. For more than a decade we have been advocating for Queensland to become an age (not aged) friendly state.

Age-friendly cities and communities are places where older people live safely, enjoy good health and stay involved. Guiding the development of Age-friendly places is a process that actively involves older people in decision-making, implementation and evaluation of a plan of action to bring about sustainable change.

Really simply, when we create communities with older people at the centre we create more liveable communities for everyone.

We invite people in the Mount Isa area to come and share their voices and be a part of a conversation to improve the lives of older people.

We are keen to know what makes their community great, what could to done to make it greater and how.

The information gathered will inform our broader work, advocating the issues and solutions at a localised level.
