Description

Convent Kids presents: The Grand Imaginarium: Your Story Garden with Minna Gilligan

Children are invited to let their imaginations run wild at the Abbotsford Convent this summer, as our stunning gardens are brought to life with artists, authors and illustrators through a series of exciting bookmaking workshops.

Taking inspiration from a magical meander through the gardens, children will create their very own book in ‘the Grand Imaginarium’ in front of our c3 gallery forecourt – a place for creative exploration, collaboration and imaginative bookmaking.

Children will not only take a copy of their own book home but will also contribute to a special compilation of stories which will be placed around the Convent, creating a story trail for other children to enjoy when they visit the Convent.

These sessions are recommended for children aged 5 – 10 years old. Children under 8 years old should be accompanied by an adult. Adults can attend for free.

Tuesday 23 January – Minna Gilligan

Make an eye-poppingly colourful book inspired by artist Minna Gilligan, who will introduce children to an explosion of colours and texture using paints, textas, fabric, old magazine cut-outs, stickers and much more to create imaginative collages.

Minna Gilligan LOVES COLOUR and works primarily with painting, drawing and collage. In 2015 Gilligan published her first book, ‘Time After Time’ (Hardie Grant Australia/ Rizzoli New York), as well as Poems, Prayers and Promises’, a book commissioned by the National Gallery of Victoria. Gilligan was a studio artist at Gertrude Contemporary from 2015 2017 and currently teaches at Monash University. Her work is in the National Gallery of Australia and Deakin University collections.

Please note: each workshop is 2 hours in length and there are two sessions available. Simply select your preferred session at check out.
Session 1:
10am – 12pm
Session 2: 1pm – 3pm
