Description

Are you considering studying medicine at The University of Auckland, University of Otago, or in Australia?

We’re inviting you to come along to our free information session. We’ll provide you with insider tips and insights into everything there is to know about applying for and attending medical school in New Zealand and Australia.

Delivered by current medical students at The University of Auckland and University of Otago, the session will provide comprehensive information about:

  • Choosing a career in medicine (why it might be for you)
  • The academic requirements for getting accepted into medicine (GPA, UMAT, etc.)
  • Gaining admission into medical school in New Zealand (The University of Auckland and University of Otago)
  • The interview system (MMI) at The University of Auckland
  • Applying to Australian medical schools
  • The academic life of a medical student (pre-clinical and clinical years)
  • Common misconceptions about applying for and completing medical school

The session will also feature a Q&A with current medical students at The University of Auckland and University of Otago!

Featured speakers:

Mark Bekhit (MBChB VI)
Mark is a Trainee Intern at Auckland City Hospital, he was dux of Westlake Boys High School in Auckland and gained intro in Medical schools in Australia and New Zealand. He is really passionate about informing prospective medical students on how to best utilise their time in Highschool.

Hohepa Stablein (MBChB III)
Hohepa is a third year medical student at Otago University. From Palmerston North, he was dux of St Peter's College, and came down to Dunedin to do health science in 2015. Hugely passionate about Otago and the opportunities that Medicine can provide, he has made many trips up to Christhchurch already to talk to groups of students about the opportunities at hand.

Bryan Chong (MBChB VI)
Bryan is a final year medical student from The University of Auckland currently working in Middlemore hospital. Originally from Wellington, he gained discretionary entrance into university at the end of year 12 and graduated with a Biomedical degree from Victoria University of Wellington. He has a strong passion for supportive education and driving academic excellence, and is a strong advocate for the various avenues of opportunity medical studies afford.

Ella Brownlie
Ella is a Law and Arts student at Victoria University in Wellington. In 2015 she was an NZ Outstanding Scholar and Top Scholar in History. She is extremely experienced with NCEA and NZ Scholarship tutoring and is passionate about helping students achieve the best possible high school results. Ella will be covering the topics of NZQA scholarship and NCEA.

This is an event for the whole family, so we highly recommend that students and parents coming along together to ensure everyone has the same information.
