Your duty of care: knowing when and how to refer on a client
Event Information
About this event
We all have a duty of care to others, regardless of our profession or personal circumstances. As hypnotherapists, our ‘duty of care’ relates to our legal and ethical responsibilities towards our clients – specifically that we take all reasonable steps to do them no harm.
There are circumstances where continuing with a session is inappropriate. That may be because you feel uncertain of your ability to help, not sure whether hypnotherapy is an appropriate modality, or it might be that you feel unqualified (or too inexperienced) to offer assistance. Whatever the reason, you will need to be able to evaluate this in the moment, and have a plan for providing your client with a referral to appropriate care.
Your duty of care does not cease just because you have decided that you are not going to continue working with your client. There are also some circumstances where it is your legal responsibility to provide information to police or another authority, particularly where you are made aware that someone is at risk of harm.
We will also be talking about the concept of ‘informed consent’, why this is important, and how you can obtain this from your clients.
We hope to see you there!
