Session Two: Your Business

For not-for-profit arts organisations, working for purpose over profit can present challenges in knowing the right organisational structure for you. Simon Joyce from YCG and Suzanne Derry from Arts Law take a look at business structures for creative workers, good governance and financial literacy for non-profits.

Presenters

Suzanne Derry is the Senior Solicitor at the Arts Law Centre of Australia. Suzanne has worked for a number of community legal centres and a boutique entertainment law practice. Suzanne provides legal advice on copyright, contract, defamation, debt and business structures. Suzanne enjoys educating artists about their rights and providing practical advice across a range of arts areas.

Simon Joyce has over 12 years of audit and advisory experience with ‘big four’ and mid-tier firms, including eight years in senior positions at Deloitte. Over this time, he has developed a specialisation and passion for working with both private businesses and not-for-profit entities.

Bronte Hogarth is a digital marketing and communications professional who specialises in helping charitable organisations to use digital strategies to broaden their audiences and reach their goals. Bronte has worked in the non-profit sector and with start-up businesses, and lead the digital marketing team for the highly successful climate action campaign 1 Million Women. She is passionate about using the digital world to share stories, build communities and influence positive social and environmental change.

Night School for Creatives

Over four Wednesday evenings in winter, the City of Sydney will be inviting industry experts to share their knowledge with local arts, cultural and creative businesses. This is an opportunity to up-skill and maximise your competitiveness in the arts and creative industries. You're invited to attend as many sessions as you like, but please remember, spaces are limited and you must book for each session you wish to attend.
