Event description

Description

The Westmead Research Hub will host a Q & A with our 2019 Visting Professor Peter Watson!

Also, if you have any questions for the Q & A please email them to jlinton@wrh.org.au !

Are you a young researcher of the Westmead Research Hub and want to hear how all the successful people of Westmead got to where they are? Would you like to get tips on how to navigate your way through the often complicated and frustrating life of a medical researcher? Well this is for you!

The Westmead Research hub will host a free catered breakfast for all young researchers of Westmead that will feature a talk from Professor Peter Watson about the perils and pitfalls, the highs and lows and other life lessons to help you get through your degree or find your way as an early career researcher. We will aim to keep these talks authentic, honest and raw- the kind of stuff they don’t necessarily prepare you for in your coursework.

Peter Watson is a Professor in the Department of Pathology, BC Cancer Agency (BCCA) and the University of British Columbia (UBC), Canada. He combines a clinical practice as a breast pathologist (20% time) with roles in building research infrastructures as Director of the BCCA Tumor Tissue Repository program and the UBC Office of Biobank Education & Research (30% time), and a research program (50% time) in biology and biomarkers of solid tumour progression. His academic work has been funded by national and international funding agencies since 1993 and has generated over 190 peer reviewed papers and over 40 reviews, book chapters, and letters, including 40 papers in the past 5 years. His Google Scholar h-index is 72. Since1993, Professor Watson has been the primary supervisor for 7 graduate students, 10 research track post-doctoral fellows and 7 clinician-scientist track trainees.
