You Can’t Ask That: Transgender Day of Visibility
Overview
This year, we’re marking TDOV by doing something a little different.
You Can’t Ask That is a live, honest conversation about gender diversity, visibility, and what real inclusion actually looks like beyond awareness and good intentions. This aims to offer a safe space to learn and not feel scared to say the wrong thing.
🎤 Speakers: Necho Brocchi, Director of Services at Open Doors Youth Service Inc & Nicnevin, Centre-Based Team Leader at HART4000, Homelessness Assessment and Referral Team, with Communify Qld.
Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV) is an annual, international celebration of trans pride, visibility and community and a moment to acknowledge both the achievements of transgender, gender diverse and non-binary people, and the discrimination they continue to face.
In our sector, we ask invasive questions every day, so why do we get scared to ask about gender?
In this conversational style panel, we’ll talk about:
- What Transgender Day of Visibility is, its history and its significance
- Mini Gender Diversity 101 with practical information to help in your role
- What young trans and gender diverse people are experiencing right now
- Discrimination, bias and how it shows up in everyday workplaces
- Inclusion beyond awareness: from ally to accomplice
- Housing, violence and the intersecting issues facing gender diverse people
- Why data matters and how we capture it
- Additional topics based off the questions provided to the speakers
We’ll also reflect on what organisations and individuals can do more of, less of, and differently, because visibility without action isn’t enough.
This session is for:
- Workers, leaders and organisations wanting to create genuinely inclusive spaces
- Allies who want to move beyond “aware” and “supportive” to meaningful action
- Anyone curious, unsure, or still learning
As part of registration, you’ll be invited to submit a question anonymously to the panel speakers. We’d rather you ask here than never ask at all. Questions will be reviewed and moderated to ensure they are respectful and safe for everyone involved.
