Event description
YINC Canberra is an invite-only workshop for alumni of the Academy for Enterprising Girls and Young Change Agents programs.

About this Event

Your team have been selected to attend the first YINC (Youth Incubator) in Canberra for the Academy for Enterprising Girls! This incubator will be held at the Canberra Innovation Network - the heart of innovation and entrepreneurship in the ACT!

Across this two-day experience you will have the opportunity to:

  • Turn your idea into a business model using a Social Lean Canvas
  • Get clear on your "Why" and develop your Elevator Pitch
  • Test your "riskiest assumptions" (ie why your business might fail!) and learn from your research
  • Work with a mentor!
  • Participate in a "Networking Afternoon Tea" where you can create connections and get feedback on your idea
  • Showcase your learnings and next steps!

FAQ's

Who else is going?

We have invited select teams from 5 programs run across Canberra. Each team has been selected because they have an important problem they are solving and an innovative idea to solve it. Teams have also been selected based on mindset - a willingness to have a go, to learn new skills and an interest in making positive impact on the world through business.

What time does it run each day?

Both days will run from 9am to 4pm. The last session of day one will be the Networking Afternoon Tea and the last session on day two will be the Showcase. If parents are keen to attend either of these they can register separately.

Who is facilitating the session?

The facilitation team will be Young Change Agents - who are experts in entrepreneurial education. The lead facilitator will be Cofounder of Young Change Agents Margaret O'Brien who launched the first YINC in Sydney in 2017. Previous to starting Young Change Agents, Margaret was a Social Enterprise Advisor for Social Traders' Incubator program, The Crunch. She is an investor in women-led business through SheEO and a Founding Board Member of the Social Enterprise Council of NSW and ACT (SECNA). She is an alumni of Daramalan College in Canberra.

What can I expect each day?

The difference between this program and the school workshops is that each team will now operate as a "startup" business. Teams will use a "Kanban Board" to manage the different tasks they need to get done and will work quite independently with support from the Young Change Agents team and mentors.

What do I need to bring?

Please bring lunch, water bottle and a device (at least one per team). We will be providing healthy snacks (dips, crackers, muesli bars, fruit etc) and refreshments of the Big Afternoon Tea of Networking.

What if only some of my team can make it, can we still come?

Yes, you can attend with a minimum of 2 team members.

Is there a cost to attend?

No there is no cost to participate. This workshop is funded as part of the Academy for Enterprising Girls - a Federal Government initiative. The value of this workshop is $1000 per team.

Are there permission forms?

Yes, once you have completed this form with your parents details, Young Change Agents will send a permission form which will include a media release. A photographer will take some photos on Day One.

Who do I contact if I have more questions?
