Y11 Chemistry: Mastering The Atomic Structure [Module 1]
Event Information
Description
Just finished Term 1 of Year 11 Chemistry and found it challenging?
In this HSC Mastery Holiday Workshop, we're going to help you master the Atomic Structure from Module 1 of the new HSC Chemistry syllabus!
In this 3 workshop during the school holidays on Tuesday 16th April from 9:30am-12:30pm, our Head of Science, Adrian will help you:
- Master the SPDF notation for electron structures up to element 20.
- Learn how to apply electronic structure and reasoning to exam style questions.
- Review electronegativity, atomic radii, ionisation energy, valence, absorption/emission spectra
- Get an in-depth understanding of electronic structure mass detection technique (Thompson's experiment and mass spectrometry)
- Master how to calculate molar mass from given information.
Why is it important to master this now?
These are the concepts that sit in the engine room of all the incoming Chemistry for the next two years for your HSC.
A solid understanding of the structure underneath the periodic table is literally the machinery that you will use to pull in your understanding of the rest of the course as you move forward through it.
The Key Outcomes
- Students will learn the basics of the atomic structure and apply this reasoning to exam style questions
- Use Thomson's experiment to determine the approximate molar mass of elements
- Apply chemical reasoning to determine the nature of substances given its properties
- Students will build the foundation of their understanding for the continuation of their chemistry studies in the upcoming 2 years
What’s included?
- 3-hour workshop run by our Head of Sciences, Adrian
- Small personalised class - so you're not one of 100 students in a big lecture room. We cap the sessions at 15 students maximum :)
- Lesson notes and practice questions to help you master the Atomic Structure!
Investment: $120 for 3 hours of support
Date: Tuesday 16th April
Time: 9:30-12:30pm
