Writing with Archives
Event Information
About this Event
This workshop explores the challenges of reconstructing people, voices and stories from traces lodged in archives.
How do we write about, around, and into the gaps of various sorts of documents and the aims of particular collections?
How might the power structures framing an archive’s creation be described in conjunction with the materials brought into focus through research?
How might the story of discovery be artfully woven into what has been discovered?
Led by Kirin Narayan in conjunction with Katerina Teaiwa and Shameem Black, the workshop will feature a sequence of short writing exercises and group discussions.
WHAT TO BRING: quantities of paper; favorite pens or pencils to write by hand
LIMITED SEATING. Advance registration is required. Please register through Eventbrite if you wish to attend.
