A crash-course in writing junior fiction for writers of all levels, with award-winning Brisbane author Dave Lowe.

About this event

This three-hour workshop, for writers of all levels, is a crash-course in writing junior fiction. This informal, interactive session will focus on: hooking the reader; developing interesting characters; voice; dialogue; humour; and, perhaps most importantly of all, pacing. We’ll focus on common pitfalls and how to avoid them, and we’ll also take a look at the editing process, and how to polish your manuscript so it’s as good as it can possibly be. Finally, we’ll look at how to approach agents and publishers.

Learning outcomes

  • Guidance in planning your junior fiction novel
  • Creating interesting and believable characters
  • Polishing your work on a sentence level.

This is a hybrid workshop with a focus on craft; it will be held in-person at Queensland Writers Centre and live streamed simultaneously to an online audience. It is a level 1 course for writers of all levels.
