This webinar will give you tips and techniques to make your writing more effective – whether it's for websites, email or social media.

About this Event

Learn how to write compelling online copy 

Taught by a former Sydney Morning Herald editor and journalist, this writing for the web course is fun and practical with plenty of exercises. 

Only six places are available to ensure every participant receives personalised attention. 

Digital handbooks and certificates will be given, in addition to a recording of the webinar.

The course will be taught over two half days on Zoom.

First day (29 July)

9.30am – 10.45am

  • How people read online (based on research from leading usability experts). 
  • Writing for mobile and desktop screens.
  • Writing with the audience in mind. 
  • The importance of using plain English to make information engaging and easy to read. 

10.45am – 11am

  • Tea break.

11am – 12.30pm

  • How to write short, sharp and snappy sentences (such as by making them active and positive).
  • How to improve copy by cutting it. 
  • Writing strong introductory paragraphs.

Second day (30 July) 

9.30am – 10.45am

  • Formatting tips to make copy easier to scan. 
  • Writing effective links and call to actions.
  • Structuring and frontloading articles so what’s most important is at the top. 
  • Search engine optimisation (SEO) tips. 

10.45am – 11am

  • Tea break.

11am – 12.30pm

  • How to write great headlines and subheads.
  • Writing for social media.
  • Email marketing and newsletter tips (such as how to write great subject lines and preheader text).
  • Web content accessibility (WCAG) tips.
  • Question time (people can also ask questions throughout the course as well).
