Writing About Real People

Hugh Lunn has spent decades writing about real people across a range of formats, including feature articles, biography and autobiography. In this workshop, he will share anecdotes, exercises and tips for keeping it real.

About Hugh Lunn

Hugh Lunn is a multi-Walkley Award winning journalist and bestselling author whose considerable publication list includes six memoirs (including Over the Top with Jim - Australia's all-time bestselling childhood memoir); two biographies; two books on the Australian language; three collections of his newpaper feature articles and columns; and a book of radio serial episodes. He is currently working on HOME GROUND: The State of Origin Musical. Hugh is an experienced public speaker and tutor and was named a Queensland icon for Queensland's 150 celebrations in 2009.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

This course is for participants aged 18 years and above. If you are accessing the QWC member tickets you may be asked to show proof of membership.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Queensland Writers Centre is located on Level 2 of the State Library of Queensland.

There are several parking and transportation options:

  • Parking underneath State Library or Queensland Museum costs $16 per entry.
  • There is limited street parking available on Merivale Street, Montague Road and Hope Street at an hourly rate.
  • A drop-off point is located on the ring road outside SLQ, next to the bus stops.
  • The Cultural Precinct BusWay and South Brisbane Train Station are a short walk from State Library.

What can I bring into the event?

You can bring either pen and paper or a laptop along with you to write with. If you do bring a laptop, please remember to bring a power adaptor if necessary.

The venue runs quite a cool air-conditioning system so we advise bringing a jacket, jumper or cardigan with you.

What's the refund policy?

If Queensland Writers Centre cancels an event, we will try to reschedule it for a later date. If we cannot reschedule the event, or if you are unable to attend on the amended date, your payment will be refunded in full.
