This seminar will provide attendees with a great opportunity to learn the fundamentals of Antiseptic Dressings and their role in the treatment and prevention of infection.

A range of topics will be covered aimed at offering an evidence based, comprehensive approach to the use of Antiseptic Dressings in the treatment and prevention of infection.

  • Define and differentiate the terms antimicrobial, antibiotic & antiseptic
  • Review past (historical perspective), present & future use of antiseptics relating to wound infection prevention and management
  • Overview of the emerging science of wound biofilm and identify the link of wound chronicity and local wound infection
  • Discuss contemporary international consensus relating to the wound infection continuum – contamination, colonisation, local (overt & covert), spreading and systemic wound infection
  • Identify contemporary clinical indications for antiseptic dressings in today’s multi-modal approach to wound infection & chronic wound prevention & management
  • Overview available TGA approved antiseptic product types – their medium, functionality, clinical indications and precautions
  • Examine the Cardinal Health PHMB antiseptic dressing portfolio and discuss handy hints/tips & tricks relevant to the primary health care setting
  • Reflect on current antiseptic dressing options available in the workplace and consider the benefits of safe & effective antiseptic use in acute and chronic wound care today


Who Should Attend? All clinicians who are involved in wound management, such as General Practitioners, Practice Nurses, Registered and Enrolled Nurses.

Wendy is an Independent Consultant & Educator with a Masters of Wound Care, she is also the director of Wendy White Woundcare. Wendy has specialised in wound care for over 28 years, holding educational and clinical roles in wound clinics. Wendy has been providing quality educational, clinical and support services in the local, national and international arenas for over 11 years.
