Event Details

Learn how to set up your organic recycling system to turn food scraps and garden 'waste' into a fantastic fertiliser and soil conditioner for your garden. You will learn the basics on how you can get started and the different options available including composting, worm farming and Bokashi systems.  You will also get some great tips on how to reduce your waste at home.

For attending this workshop, you will receive a kitchen caddy on the day and compost bin*, which will be delivered to your door soon after attending the workshop.

This is a FREE workshop for Blacktown Council residents only. If the event is showing sold out, please register for the wait list as tickets are released closer to the event.  Workshops are run regularly.  Sign up for greenmoney to get great tips on living sustainably at home and be the first to be notifed of upcoming workshops.

For safety reasons and the comfort of our attendees, children under the age of 16 are not permitted at this workshop.

What to bring:

  • Pen
  • Note pad
  • Hat
  • Sun cream
  • Water bottle / drink
  • Enclosed shoes
  • Wear appropriate clothing for an outdoor venue

These workshop are often held in outdoor locations in our community gardens.  Seating can be limited and the event may be cancelled in the event of adverse weather and rain.

*limit one kitchen caddy and compost bin per household.  The free compost bin counts as one of two eligible rebates.  If you have previously attended the workshop, you are not eligible for a second bin.

The Sustainable Living Workshop series is run by Sustainable living Blacktown, an initiative of Blacktown City Council

Workshop program New workshops are announced on eventbrite, the BlacktownCityCouncil facebook page, and the Council website, and our Sustainable living Blacktown newsletterPlease be aware that bookings open approximately 6-8 weeks in advance of each workshop. 

Fees Please note some workshops and events have a fee associated with them to cover material costs and expences. Fees will be listed on the event page. Payment must be made online at the time of booking.

Workshop places are limited. Booking is essential. You must register to attend a workshop either via eventbrite or by calling 9839 6055 during office hours.

Do you live outside the Blacktown City Council area? Our workshops are heavily subsidised or provided free to residents with costs covered by our ratepayers. Blacktown City residents will get priority over non-residents when booking. If you are a non-resident do not book online, instead please phone us and you will be put on a waitlist. You will be notified before the workshop if there is available space. There may be an additional fee for non-residents.

Workshop changes and cancellations Some workshops may be postponed due to low numbers, or other circumstances outside of our control. If this happens you will recieve an email notification. A reminder/confirmaiton email is sent 48hours prior to the event to confirm the workshop is going ahead.

Unable to attend or want to cancel your ticket? Please contact us as soon as possible if you are unable to attend an event so places can be offered to others on a waiting list. You can also cancel your ticked online through eventbrite. Frequent non-attendance at events may result in events being cancelled and individual bookings being refused or given lower priority booking status.

Unless specified, these workshops are not suitable for children under 15yrs.
