About this Event

Enjoy a night of entertainment and great food. This supperclub style concert features a diversity of musicians from all over Perth and showcases an exciting mix of global food and music.

This concert will coincide with the international multicultural 'Playing for Change' movement. The aim of the World Music Café initiative is to celebrate the benefits of all cultures and assist new migrants to develop new enterprise ideas that will help them engage with their communities.

The four acts that will be performing are:

Crystal Jade – Traditional Chinese Trio

Crystal Jade perform traditional and contemporary Chinese instrumental music. The trio features the extraordinary musicianship of Stella Huang on the yangqin, the Chinese hammer dulcimer, Merlin Ma on bamboo flutes, and Malcolm Mah on double bass and percussion. They formed in 2016 and have performed in a number of community concerts and festivals across Perth. In 2018, they performed at the Fairbridge Festival and received a standing ovation.

Gurpreet Singh and Glenn Rogers – Classical Indian-Australian Fusion

Gurpreet Singh and Glenn Rogers are accomplished musicians collaborating on a cross cultural fusion of Indian and world jazz music genres. They first performed together in the Australian-Indian group ‘Naad’ in the early 2010’s. Their unique style is a sophisticated blend of Indian Classical ragas intertwined with western jazz stylings. Gurpreet plays complex tabla rhythms embellished by Glenn’s extraordinary sitar-guitar instrumentation and will be joined by special guests.

Chisenga – African Hip Hop & MC

Chisenga Gander Katongo is a Grammy-recognised award winning entertainer from Lusaka in Zambia. He was introduced to hip hop at an early age and released the first Zambian hip hop album. He performed at the Channel-0 music awards, the World Cup and lived in Los Angles. Since migrating to Perth, he has been performing at several festivals including the State of the Art festival and the Beaufort Street Festival. He has been collaborating with other hip hop artists including Zimbabwean-born dancer and music producer Arnold Tafadzwa Musa (80EM) and Indian hip hop artist Pace D Rapper. In July 2019, Chisenga was invited back to Africa to perform at the 39th Southern African Development Community Summit in Tanzania.

Chisenga will be the MC for the World Music café launch event.

Asad Alizada – Hazara Dambora
