About this Event

Tuesday 15th September 2020

To Kyneton township. Visitors will have the chance to look around this interesting country town, to visit the botanic gardens, the museum or just have a coffee at the bakery. Some of the finest Bluestone buildings to be found in Victoria are a main feature of the town and date back to the Gold Rush era when Kyneton was a major supply town for the diggings. The Museum displays items from a bygone era in an authentic setting. Part rural hub and creative hotspot, Kyneton has good credentials for Country Victoria’s Culinary Capital.

We make our way to Graeme and Anna Brumley's home for lunch followed by a look at Graeme's daffodils. Graeme is a third generation daffodil grower who has been raising seedlings for 50 years.

We then head East to Redesdale to Fermi DeSousa and Will Arthur's garden. Will and Fermi have an interesting garden with the beds built up with large rocks where they grow daffodils mostly from the higher divisions. This is a much dryer and hotter area than Kyneton.

Afternoon tea included.

No formal dinner has been arranged for this evening but some of our members are hoping to join you for a dinner at the hotel.

Wednesday 16th September 2020

To Warrook Farm, Monomeith. Morning tea on arrival. The property dates from 1856 and gives an insight to the past history of farming in the area with demonstrations of farming techniques. There is a fauna park of Australian animals as well as farm animals.

We continue to Leongatha North where the VDS is looking after Ian Dyson's daffodil seedlings. After lunch provided by our members (wonderful country cooks) and a look at the flowers we drive to San Remo via Inverloch with wonderful coastal scenery. Afternoon tea at the jetty and then on to see the famous Penguin Parade(warm clothing essential). Snack provided because of time constraints but there is food available at the venue. Late return to Melbourne.

Thursday 17th September 2020

To Menzies Creek to Hancock’s Daffodils. Morning tea provided on arrival. Will and Christine run a successful daffodil business but also have some of the Dyson bulbs as well as some seedlings they have bred themselves. Return to Melbourne for a late lunch (at own expense).

Afternoon free to enjoy Melbourne. One of the most liveable cities in the world, Melbourne has free transport on our iconic trams within the city centre, making it easy to get around. The National Gallery, Aquarium, Botanic Gardens and South bank Promenade are some of the attractions within easy reach of the hotel.
