About this event
The Worksmith Community Talks are a series of monthly conversations that feature experts, business owners, creatives, leaders in their fields who are connected to hospitality, food, drink and all that that entails.
Australia's restaurant industry is evolving rapidly, accelerated by the pandemic and access to new technology. To understand the future possibilities for restaurants, Square worked with YouGov Research to survey 500 restaurateurs and 1,000 diners across Australia for their first Future of Restaurants report.
The report digs into industry trends, sharing insights directly from successful local restaurants and industry insiders who use Square. Restaurateurs have shared their experiences of the past two years, giving Square a rare glimpse into what’s next for the industry, as consumer demands and behaviours continue to shift.
“Leaning on technology in your restaurant takes courage. We know that service is the number one priority, and adjusting your technology providers comes with a bit of risk in implementation, but the efficiency gains that can be made are huge” - Michael Bascetta, Capitano
Though every business has faced its own unique challenges in recent times. Against a backdrop of staffing shortages, supply chain disruptions and the lingering effects of pandemic restrictions. Square found that Australian restaurant owners are incredibly resilient and up for the challenge. 77% of businesses surveyed said they felt optimistic about their restaurant being able to thrive over the next 12 months. For 25% of the optimists, the major reason was strong repeat business from regulars.
The panel featuring Hannah Green from ETTA, Michael Bascetta from Capitano and Colin Birney from Square, will discuss the report’s findings, plus an assessment of why technology and data-informed innovation are cause for optimism for so many restaurants – in spite of all their challenges.
Join us at Worksmith for a first look at the report and the impressions from industry panelsists who’ll dissect the insights found within. Come with questions at the ready as we’ll open the floor to a Q&A.
Home Grown cocktails, drinks & snacks will be provided.
