Agriculture Victoria is conducting a series of information sessions across the Wimmera, Mallee and French Island to assist sheep and goat producers with the adoption of electronic identification across the industry.
From 1 January 2017, sheep and goats born in Victoria will require an electronic National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) tag before they leave their property of birth.
These workshops will provide Victorian producers with an overview of the standards and support available to help transition to the mandatory use of electronic ear tags.
Topics of the workshops include:
• Timelines for the implementation of electronic identification (EID)
• What producers will need to do to meet the requirements
• Transition Package – details of the $17.06 million package to support industry, including:
- cost-neutral tags for producers
- grants for the purchase of optional infrastructure (including hardware and software)
- question and answer session
Workshops will run for approximately 2.5 hours across the state between February 6 to 15, 2017.
Locations include, St Arnaud, Birchip, Swan Hill, Ouyen, Horsham, Edenhope, Kaniva and French Island.
