Description

Topiary Craft: Learn how to start your own topiary plants for your garden.

The fascinating art of topiary isn't new and in fact, it dates back to the first century AD when Roman Gardeners began shaping trees and shrubs by regular trimming and garden craft.

Topiary then entered the European gardening’s mainstream during the Italian Renaissance, when gardeners turned back to ancient Rome and Greece for inspiration.

Join this practical and hands-on workshop to discover this craft’s rich history and its link to ornamental horticulture, while learning how to grow, train and maintain your own topiary collection. You'll even get to take home your own topiary plant and carry on the ancient tradition.

The workshop will take place in the Mount Lofty Botanic Garden Nursery - enter via the trade gate to the right of the Lower Carpark entrance (Lampert Road) and follow the road to the Nursery. Download a map from our website.

This workshop is running as part of South Australia's History Festival, which runs through May 2019. See the Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium's full suite of History Festival events at our website http://botanicgardens.sa.gov.au/whats-on
