Where: artisan, 45 King Street, Bowen Hills

Cost: $210 per person, limited to 10 places

About the workshop:

Come sculpt the night away with Jess Blak! In this class you will learn the basics of designing and sculpting a lost wax cast ring. You will create your own designs with the use of carving tools, heating wands, fire and your hands! This is a great way to engage with the materials Jess uses to craft her designs, and an introduction to the processes involved in making silversmithed jewellery.

Included in workshop ticket:

  • One large ring weighing up to 1.5 grams (in wax) or two small rings adding up to 1.5 grams. On the night you may add extra rings to your order at the cost $40 per ring plus the weight in silver. Also available is the option to add stones to your designs! These can purchased on the night (please note- no BYO stones or materials required)
  • Casting, sanding, polishing completed by Jess after the workshop (oxidisation available upon request)
  • Light refreshments

What to bring:

  • Clothes that can get dirty, or an apron
  • Closed in shoes
  • Some inspiration/ideas about what you would like to create

About the facilitator:

Jess Blak is an Australian contemporary silversmith with an appreciation for traditional craftsmanship and ethical practices. Her organic approach to creating balances repetition and authenticity. Her collections are inspired by the juxtaposition of nature and the built environment. Jess’ style of making emulates textures found in ruins and shipwrecks, inspired by such artefacts and their ability to recall stories lost and the mystery of times past. The treatment of the silver suggests time has manipulated the surface leaving it organic and completely unpredictable, beautifying the unexpected nature of discovery. Find more of Jess’ work at jessblak.com or @jess.blak on Instagram.

Skill Level: This workshop is suitable for beginners.
