--------------------------------------

This workshop is an opportunity to find out how to co-design culturally responsive disability support and how your ideas could contribute to improving other services.

Policy and practice implications from new research by UNSW Sydney and St Vincent de Paul Society NSW (SVDPNSW) shows that people with disability, families and service providers can work together to improve the cultural responsiveness of disability services.

The research, Culturally Responsive Disability Support with Chinese Clients in Sydney, is a project led by the Social Policy Research Centre at UNSW in collaboration with the SVDPNSW Local Area Coordination (LAC) Program. The research examines how the SVDPNSW LAC program responds to the needs and preferences of Australian Chinese communities in the context of NDIS through its Community Access Network Strategy. The first stage of the project is complete.

The workshop will:

  • Launch the research report ‘Culturally Responsive Disability Support-Community Access Network (CAN)’
  • Share key findings about culturally responsive disability support to Australian Chinese people with disability and their families
  • Be a focused opportunity for people with disability and their families from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, practitioners, policy makers, and scholars to discuss how to apply the results of the research to their own support contexts.
