
Workshop - Building on basics: practical harm reduction information

About this event
This half-day workshop is for AOD workers who are new to the sector, or those looking to update their knowledge in an ever-changing work environment. It aims to deliver up-to-date information on universal harm reduction principles and substance-specific harm reduction strategies suitable for AOD clients.
At the end of the workshop participants will be able to*:
• Understand the importance of harm reduction as an intervention for AOD and its background
• Identify specific harm reduction messaging for AOD (including for injecting and non-injecting drug use) as well as how and when to use it
• Know where to find harm reduction initiatives and resources for both workers and clients
*(Please note: Participants are expected to have basic understanding of the pharmacology of alcohol and other common substances – e.g. opioids, cannabis, methamphetamines, etc.)
Anna Guthrie is an Education Officer at Turning Point, whose work includes delivering professional development and community education about alcohol and other drugs (AOD). Anna has over 20 years’ experience in the AOD sector, having worked across roles in research, group facilitation, peer support, helpline volunteering and education and training. Anna currently facilitates groups for both families of people who use AOD, and people wanting to make changes to their AOD use. Anna has a BA, Grad Dip of Prof Writing/Editing, and a Grad Dip of AOD.
Who should attend? Victorian Department Health funded AOD workers new to their role and/or those looking to refresh and update existing knowledge., note that your registration will not be accepted if your organisation is not DH funded.

Cancellation policy: This is a free event, however if your circumstances change please log into your Eventbrite account and cancel your registration or alternatively email tp@turningpoint.org.au no later than 7 days prior to advise of your inability to attend. If notification is not received 7 days prior to event a fee of $50 will be charged - as per invoice details at the time of registration.
Places are limited in these free workshops, so all participants are requested to provide their Manager’s contact details during registration. Managers will be contacted if participants fail to attend training without providing notice.
