Event description
Discover how to create authentic and compelling in a workshop with author Melissa Keil.

About this Event

Why do some characters feel more authentic and compelling than others? How do writers find the inspiration for their fictional people and how do they make them ‘come to life’? Join author and children’s editor Melissa Keil to discover how to create authentic and compelling characters.

You’ll be guided on the process writers undertake in order to create their fictional people, from creating an initial character profile to ‘getting into your characters head’, creating a believable back story and an authentic voice for your character.

Melissa Keil is a writer and children’s book editor based in Melbourne. Her young adult novels have been published around the world, and have been described as ‘humorous, heartfelt and angst-y romance with the potential to break the gender barrier’.

Melissa’s debut YA novel, Life in Outer Space, was the winner of the 2013 Ampersand Project, and has been shortlisted for the Prime Minister’s Literary Award, The CBCA Book of the Year (Older Readers), and the Gold INKY. Other novels include The Adventure of Cinnamon Girl and The Secret Science of Magic.
