WORKSHOP 2: Exploring the Beneficial Integration of Distributed Energy Resources & Digital Market Platforms for Energy
This two-day workshop will explore key technology and market platform elements that are expected to underpin and motivate increasingly distributed, lower carbon energy systems.
Due to the close relationship between the content for Day 1 and Day 2, we encourage stakeholders to attend both days if possible. We recognise that making two days available may challenging, so stakeholders are welcome to only attend one day of the workshop.
Day 1: Beneficial Integration of Distributed Energy Resources
Day 1 will focus on strategic and technological options for enabling the integration of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) into the grid at mass-scale and in a manner that provides benefits to both customers and the system as a whole. It will also include initial consideration of the potential need for new entities in a highly-distributed energy systems such as a Distribution System Operator (DSO) and the high level functionality required to enable the platform of the future.
Day 1 will focus particularly on:
- Defining future grid requirements and identifying the Future Grid characteristics/functionality
- Future Grid Architecture (i.e. Physical Network, Communications, Control and data systems)
- Nodes, and
- The future platform definition.
Day 2: Digital Market Platforms for High-DER Energy Systems
Building on the outcomes of the first day, Day 2 will focus on the strategic and technological options for valuing and monetising the services that millions of Distributed Energy Resources may provide to the energy system through digital market platforms. This workshop will be informed by global examples from leading jurisdictions including New York State, California and the Netherlands.
Lunches will be provided.
