Event description

Description

Working with Trauma and Dual Diagnosis - Trauma Informed Care (Blended)

Facilitator: Ange Wallace

This on-line and one-day interactive and practical professional development training assists clinicians to understand the possibility that their clients who experience dual diagnosis may have experiences of childhood and/or other past or current trauma(s), which could be affecting their health, wellbeing, daily interactions and functioning.

This training is introductory and appropriate to a wide range of work roles. It covers basic clinical treatment and puts trauma in a context that provides clinicians with a trauma-informed focus to better understand challenging emotions and human behaviour that clients with a dual diagnosis may present with.

This training uses current research to provide a basic understanding of trauma and the core principles of trauma-informed practice - a recovery, strengths-based approach vital for every person working in the helping professions, whether you work in government, non-government, public or private sectors.

By participating in this professional development training, clinicians will:
1. Develop understanding of the types, prevalence, neurobiology and impacts of trauma
2. Use trauma-informed approaches to reframe challenging emotions and behaviours as adaptive responses to trauma
3. Use case study examples to apply trauma-inform approaches to your work/care and assist with developing trauma-informed recovery management plans

Who should attend?

Anyone in the workplace from diverse sectors including, but not limited to, health, mental health, alcohol and other drugs services, community, legal, justice, domestic and family violence, child protection, emergency, disability, housing and employment services.

Participants are expected to complete online modules prior to this session. A link to the online modules will be sent out three weeks prior to the face to face session.
