Target audience: Research students at any point in their candidature

Knowledge derived from research and scholarship should not be confined solely to the academy, and ought to make a contribution to wider public culture. While digital communication technologies make it possible for anyone to communicate their knowledge via social media, professional media organizations remain crucial to the circulation, impact and status of academic knowledge. This workshop will discuss the principles and practices of engaging with the media for emerging and early-career university-based researchers. It addresses practical ways of working with print, broadcast and online media (public, not-for-profit and commercial), with particular reference to The Conversation, “an independent source of news and views, sourced from the academic and research community and delivered direct to the public” (https://theconversation.com/au/who-we-are).
