Event description
This workshop will give you the opportunity to ask questions, learn strategies and gain confidence to engage with people with disability.

About this Event

When working with clients, fellow volunteers or friends with disability, many volunteers feel unsure as to what is appropriate to say or do. This training will give volunteers the opportunity to ask questions, learn strategies, and gain confidence in order to engage positively with people with disability.

Key learning areas:

  • Understanding the legal and historical context of disability inclusion
  • How to ensure communication is not offensive or disrespectful
  • Definitions of disability in medical and social contexts
  • Why assumptions can be harmful
  • The role of respect in disability inclusion

This event is part of The Hills Shire Council Volunteer Training Program.

*The Hills Shire Council has the right to cancel this event if there’s a insufficient number of attendees*
