Description

Join The Wyatt Trust, The Bedford Group and The Australian Industrial Transformation Institute (AITI) at Flinders University this Community and Philanthropy Partnerships Week to celebrate our ‘Work Pays$: Everyday Money Skills for Young People with Disabilities’ collaboration.

Work Pay$ was an action research project piloted in 2016 to improve the financial literacy of students with disabilities transitioning from school to employment, training and/or independent living.

With funding from Financial Literacy Australia for the evaluation of the pilot, the project team, comprising Bedford training staff, Flinders University’s AITI researchers and Wyatt grants staff, developed and delivered a pilot financial literacy module within Bedford’s on-site School-to-Work Transition Program.

The initiative built on financial literacy learnings in the school curriculum to target a program for young people with intellectual and multiple disabilities to engage with their finances and improve their everyday money skills in a work setting.

The evaluation of the pilot is now complete and the project team has produced a short film documenting the experience.

So join us on the morning of Wednesday, 22nd November 2017 at Flinders University’s Victoria Square campus to view the film, hear from the key stakeholders regarding the benefits experienced by the young participants, and meet with others working in the field.

Community and Philanthropy Partnerships Week takes place from 20th to 26th November 2017 to celebrate the many inspiring partnerships that are making an impact in their local communities. The initiative is supported through the Prime Minister’s Community Business Partnership and managed by Philanthropy Australia in partnership with The Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal. The theme this year is Building Stronger Communities and Work Pay$ is one of 21 partnerships selected across Australia to be showcased to share knowledge and best practice.
