Feminist and women's peace-making work is largely unrecognized and is chronically under-resourced. COVID-19 has amplified this gap; even though women peacebuilders are at the forefront of responses, they continue to be excluded from public decision-making on recovery. This seminar introduces findings on the topic of peacebuilding as care from the University of Sydney, as well as perspectives from grassroots peacebuilders.

Panelists:

Laura J. Shepherd is an Australian Research Council Future Fellow and Professor of International Relations at the University of Sydney. Her primary field of research relates to the development and implementation of the WPS agenda, and she is co-Director of the UKRI GCRF Gender, Justice and Security Hub.

Caitlin Hamilton is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Gender, Justice and Security at the University of Sydney. Her research interests include the WPS agenda, everyday world politics, and innovative approaches to methods and methodology.

Anu Mundkur has extensive practical experience in the fields of international relations (particular focus on human security), gender and development. Anu is one of the founding members of the Australian Civil Society Coalition on Women, Peace and Security and continues to serve on its Steering Group. She is also the WPS Coalition's representative on the Australian Government’s Inter-departmental Subcommittee for Australia’s National Plan on Women, Peace and Security.

Lynrose Jane D. Genon is a member of the Executive Council of Young Women Leaders for Peace – Philippines (YWLP-PH), a network of young women and LGBT leaders from the Philippines, who are agents of peace and advocates of human rights, women's rights, gender equality, and peace and security. She is currently a Faculty Member at the Department of English of Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT). She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Master of Arts degree in Culture and Arts Studies. She focuses on Youth Leadership, Education and Peace.

Agnieszka Fal-Dutra Santos is a Program Coordinator at the Global Network of Women Peacebuilders. Agnieszka leads GNWP’s work on effective WPS implementation, including Localization of UNSCR 1325. She has worked with local and national women peacebuilders to support their peacebuilding work and advocacy, and develop effective frameworks for the implementation of the WPS agenda in over 15 countries. She also leads GNWP’s research and global advocacy on Peacebuilding and Sustaining Peace; the linkages between CEDAW and WPS agenda; and Financing for WPS. She led a global study on local women and civil society perspectives on sustaining peace in 2018, and authored or co-authored multiple publications on peacebuilding and WPS.
